Laptop Euthanasia

When Kev and I moved to the UK we took 2 laptops with us. A spritely classic PC and a new Macbook. 2 years and 6 flights later we are putting one of our laptop's to rest. This last year has been particularly rough for our little HP. Pieces of his shell just started falling off (he is missing 4 now), he started overheating after 5 minutes and would make weird distracting noises. He now has a 20 minute lifespan before he just shuts off for no reason (bless his heart). i've grown a bit attached to him because Mr. Phd has been slow to loosen his grip on the Mac. Anyway as we are packing up our house and trying to not exceed our baggage weight limit we have decided he doesn't make the cut... :( Goodbye old friend.

Dom Arigato I miss my Gelato!

In Rome gelato is a staple. Without it, it is nearly impossible to endure the heat/thousands of tourists/dry dirty city. Gelaterias are found on every street corner, like pubs in Durham. Most gelaterias double as a bar. So on top of good ice cream you also get a drink. Drinking is allowed on the streets so I spent a lot of time downing my bicardi and gelato while trapsing the city. The flavors are in Italian but they usually put some sort of picture by what you are getting. We quickly learnt the basics for the flavors we liked.

Boat on a Moat

Since we've been in Durham I have thought about rowing on the moat. In the centre of the city there is a castle and a cathedral (you can't miss them and can see them from practically everywhere in Durham) and surrounding the castle/cathedral is a moat. Whenever I am downtown I notice university kids rowing on the water and think I should try... this video shows why I could never get an athletic scholarship... Please excuse the shoty footage (it's not like we are trying to be professional videographers or anything ;) Also disregard Kev's 'accidental' focal points...:)

puppy soon!

Anyone who knows us knows that we have been waiting for a puppy for a LONG time. We have been thinking about Sheepdogs since just after we got married and we finally put a deposit on one November 2008. Well our pup have finally been concieved and has a due date of July 24th and will be 8 weeks old and shipped out to us in Canada the second week of September! Yea! So I am pumped. Haven't decided on a name yet: Here are some contenders

This is the latest kitty on the calgary humane website to capture my heart. Her name is Genie and she has some nerve damage to her tongue so she is enable to retract it, but it still works. She is sweet and shy. I like her.

Ok, so we shot our first wedding on our trip home, which was a lot of fun and a huge learning curve for both Kev and me. We learnt a few things that we are going to do differently for our next shoot but live and learn. Here is the vid.

Momentos

When Kev and I moved to UK we decided we would try and live as thriftfully and as simply as we could, buy only what we needed to survive in our house and try to not accumulate much stuff we would have to ship home later. And in some ways we have stayed true to this goal. Currently we have 2 knives, 6 spoons and 3 forks. (from an orginal 8 each set). The rest of our stainless steel items rusted nearly a year ago... We have 2 pots, 1 frying pan, 4 plates, 4 bowls, and 2 strainers... now for the most part we have been able to get by. It is not uncommon however for Kev and I to eat meals out ususing tupperwear lids ect. The one exception to this rule is our mugs. This collection has grown steadily since our first anniversary when we bought our simpsons steins. These mugs have now become dear to us or mainly me and we be coming home with us (the very thing I tried to avoid)....

A New Jackson Pollock

One of the things we looked into when decided where to live in Durham was how much mold was in our household. Not if there is is mold but how much... when we moved to Gilesgate into what some would say a 'luxury flat' we didn't have mold. But its been 2 years since that. This is our current entry way.

spadeface

I have this super odd habit of checking the Calgary Humane Society's website on a daily basis to see which animals are up for adoption. At first it was just to see if there were any sheepdogs or bassets that my family and I would be interested in adopting, then it grew into a curiousity to see which animals would be adopted. The animals that are least likely to be adopted are bunnies (lots of them) and black and white cats. Random I know. Also dogs that are 9+ (who gives up there dog when they're 9!). Anyway one such kitty is Lexi who is 2 but I just call her spadeface. She is so cute, but I live in the UK so it probably won't work out for us... Anyway she has been on the website for 2 months now, so we will have to see what happens.

gander @ a goose

This is my latest addition to the corduroy farm: 'goose' made for a little Zoe Zecher who has a nickname 'goose'. This little guy was whipped up rather quickly (2 days) but I like his style. On to my next project... :)
