In Rome gelato is a staple. Without it, it is nearly impossible to endure the heat/thousands of tourists/dry dirty city. Gelaterias are found on every street corner, like pubs in Durham. Most gelaterias double as a bar. So on top of good ice cream you also get a drink. Drinking is allowed on the streets so I spent a lot of time downing my bicardi and gelato while trapsing the city. The flavors are in Italian but they usually put some sort of picture by what you are getting. We quickly learnt the basics for the flavors we liked.
which flavours did you like? my fav was lemon! mmmm...
ReplyDeletebig fan of vaniglia and stracciatella
ReplyDeleteMmmm yum. The ones with drippy gooey brown and black stuff on top look like something I might enjoy! We went for Gelato in McKenzie towne that was AMAZING! Like best ever! We'll have to gelato it up when you get home.
